J. Henry Young, Jr., Ph.D., was raised in South Carolina. He attended Erskine College and completed his undergraduate education at Appalachian State University. Dr. Young earned his M.A. in clinical psychology and worked with Family and Children Services at Piedmont Area Mental Health Services, Monroe, for two years. He received his Ph.D. in counseling, human services and studies from Florida State University in 1981. Before joining Cabarrus Family Medicine Residency as Director of Behavioral Medicine in July 1996, Dr. Young worked at Piedmont Area Mental Health Center, Concord, and his practice, Carolina Child and Family Services.
Dr. Young and daughter live in Charlotte. Dr.Young's special interests include professional wellness and his hobbies are singing, traveling, downhill skiing, and coaching his daughter's soccer teams.
